Brian Schmidt is a partner in KSM’s Business Advisory Group. Brian helps private equity firms and closely held, family-owned businesses navigate complex federal and state tax matters and comply with reporting requirements. He has extensive experience serving partnerships and corporations across various industries, including private equity, manufacturing and distribution, and professional services.
Brian also guides clients through mergers and acquisitions, helping them maximize tax attributes during the transaction. Through tax modeling, he finds opportunities to minimize future tax liabilities and advises on technical tax matters such as tax-deferred rollover and partnership allocations.
Additionally, Brian is a member of the firm’s Manufacturing & Distribution Services and Transaction Advisory Services Groups.
Brian received both a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and a Master of Accountancy degree from Miami University. In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, Brian also holds the designations of Certified Merger and Acquisition Advisor and Certified Manufacturing Professional.
Brian is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Indiana, the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors, the American Institute of CPAs, the Indiana CPA Society, and the Ohio CPA Society. He is also a graduate of Leadership Indianapolis’s Leadership, Education and Development (LEAD) program. He previously served as board chair of Brightlane Learning (formerly School on Wheels).
